The Perfect Spring Layer

This can be a tricky time of year wardrobe wise. Spring is here, technically, but it’s like winter one minute and summer the next, and as we all know well this season of the weather not knowing what it’s doing, lasts basically till it’s winter again. So you can find yourself not knowing what to wear on top of your outfit, do I need a jacket/ coat or not? Will I be too hot or too cold? Etc

Now I know that currently we are only leaving house for 2 reasons but .. let’s dream for a minute about those more exciting outings to come, in the hopefully not too distant future… like the nursery/ school run, a trip to a coffee shop or even a lunch out with friends!!

One of solutions to this, is to make sure you have a good selection of transitional layers in your wardrobe, ones that you can mix and match and be easily worn over your daily outfits. Dressing up or down where required. If you find the perfect one for you, you will find it has great longevity within your wardrobe, with you wearing again and again.

Here’s a few examples of, what I think are wardrobe essentials for this time of year and right through to autumn. I’ve mostly used images from Instagram, from the pages of lovely ladies who inspire me everyday with their style. Check them out!

The Denim Shirt/Jacket

Denim is a classic and will be around forever! So if you can find a good fitting denim jacket and shirt, they will last you and go with multiple outfits in your wardrobe. A truly casual item can be worn over pretty much everything from T shirts to dresses. A long length or over sized style also great for covering up or skimming over those bits we might want to hide.

The Blazer

Smarter than a shirt or denim jacket, a blazer can give more polished, put together look. Choose a blazer in a classic or neutral colour, this will make sure it is really versatile with the rest of your wardrobe. Smarten up your T shirt and jeans by teaming with a summer blazer for a chic city look, or throw a blazer over a summer dress for a more dressed up event.

The Khaki Shirt/ Shacket

I have a plain khaki shirt and a camo kakhi shacket, both of which I have had years and worn so many times. They look great with jeans and a top or Tee but also over dresses and don’t be afraid to print clash!

The Leather Jacket

The ultimate, wear with anything go anywhere in, jacket. I don’t think I really need to say much about this one, apart from it’s the most versatile jacket you can ever buy. Invest in a good leather and one that fits you well and this will truly last you a lifetime.

The Cardigan

I’m talking about the Spring/ Summer version of our cosy winter cardigan friend. Choose a neutral or pastel colour to bring this item into the warmer seasons. Gives a very feminine look when worn over a dress or Tee with jeans, its the perfect partner to keep you warm on those chilly evenings or when the sun goes in!

“The secret to great style is to feel good in what you wear”

Ines de la Fressagne

Maybe you have a some of these in your wardrobe already, but not worn very much as out of habit we tend to throw on the same thing. Or you feel you have these options missing from your wardrobe. If so check out my Instagram as I will be posting a few of the, currently limited options, available on the high street now over the new few days.

Hope I have given you some outfit inspiration!

Thanks for reading and stay safe.
