It’s a sign that summer is finally here when your trainers or shoes can be swapped for sandals.
There are so many sandals out there the choice can be so confusing! In this weeks edit I will cover the main styles of flat Sandals that are out there this season and my favourite ones. I have kept this edit to the key styles, in terms of quality materials and from brands and stores that are my go too’s.
Like many things when I was younger and I had a different lifestyle, I would buy lots of cheap and cheerful high street sandals, wear them all summer and not think twice if they needed replacing next year. Well things have changed and like the rest of my wardrobe I am now looking for more than a summer fling, I want to invest in something long term, more sustainable.
Look for quality and comfort in your summer sandals and a style that you can see yourself wearing for years to come. Sandals that go with most of your summer wardobe already and are in classic colours and styles that will make them sustainable for future summer outfits.
I have put together what I consider to be the perfect capsule summer sandal list. If you only had these you would be covered for this summer and years to come, they are styles that will last you for years and go with everything.
My essential sandal list –
- A pair of black more sturdy looking sandals. Black goes with everything and this style compliments pretty dresses perfectly as it gives contrast.
- A slider, in a neutral colour
- A metallic or embellished sandal to make them more dressy, enabling you to dress up your outfit easily.
- Go with everything, wear all day strappy sandal
- Flip flops.
My summer sandal edit
I have covered the main styles, many of these come in several colour options so there is something to suit everyone. I have focused on my capsule summer wardobe so i keeping my sandals in a colour that will work with everything – black, tan, white, neutral , metallic and animal print.

Chunky ( dad) sandals

I’ll start with this one that’s in fashion and all over social media. The Chanel dad sandals have been growing in popularity over the last few years so the high street is following suit. I find these can be a little like marmite but the style is def they worth a try on to see if its for you.
If you like the Chanel but not the price tag these Dune ones are the best doupe I’ve found on the high street. They look great with floaty dresses as they give such a contrast.
Birkenstock’s are the originals and a brand that have been around for years and popularity goes up and down. You will find this style of sandal on the high street in various different qualities and price and in every colour, buy in a neutral to go with everything or a metallic for holiday style at home.
If like me you prefer a slightly dainty sandals perhaps you have small feet ( I am a size 4) then these may be a good option. Slightly slimmer feel but still with the 2 strap style to add edge to an outfit and will work so well with summer dresses.
I’ve just bought these ones from & other stories and they are so comfy I think I’ll be wearing them all summer.
How to wear
There isn’t really anything they don’t go with but I really like a pretty dress and some chunky sandals as it’s gives balance and contrast at the same time.

Sliders

As much as I’d love the Hermes classic sliders my budget doesn’t stretch but luckily there are lots of versions on the high street to give me similar vibes.
These Dune sliders are my favourite dupes. They are so comfy. I have them in raffa and I’d love to add tan to my collection.
How to wear
I wear mine with everything but they look particularly good with summer trousers, jeans and jumpsuits.
Strappy/ Gladiator style.
These Valentino are the ultimate in gladiator sandals as also embellished with their signature rock studs. If you like those but not the price tag these Kurt Geiger versions are such a great dupe! I bought them last year in white.
For a more understated look opt for a strappy tan sandal that you will wear day to day with everything. A effortless sandal to have in your collection.
Salt-water is such a great sandal brand , these are waterproof and they mould to your feet! They are supposed to be so comfy and are currently top of my wish list. They come in lots of colours and also do kids ones too so you can twin with your mini me. Classic styles that will never go out of fashion. Shop around and you might be able to find these on offer, they were recently on sale in Office but now most sizes are sold out.
How to wear
As a classic sandal style they will work with so much in your wardrobe. As a more feminine sandals let your outfit do the talking and match your accessories.

How to wear
Show your shoes off by pairing with slightly shorter dresses or shorts. Make sure there is a gap between your dress and the ankle to get maximum impact when wearing with longer dresses.

Metallic
I love a metallic sandal especially for holiday’s ( remember those! ) but they are also a great way of dressing up your more causal summer style outfit for going out, and are great for day to night summer style. After this year I’m saying don’t say the sparkle wear anywhere and everywhere.
Flip flops
There is only 1 worth buying in my book, I have had mine for years and still going strong. You buy in every colour of the rainbow. You can’t go to the beach or a pool without a pair!
