One of the common misconceptions about having a colour analysis is that we are going to tell you you can’t wear black and you have to get rid of half your wardrobe.
This is not true!
What is true is that typically only those with a mainly winter colour season can wear black next to their face and it be flattering to your completion, black can drain you of colour and make your skin appear paler.
But that doesn’t mean that if you are not a winter you can’t wear black, after all we all love black! It’s slimming , chic and most women’s go to when it comes to putting an outfit together.
So the question is how do you wear black when it’s not one of your best colours in a flattering way that suits you?
In this blog I’m going to share with you my 10 top tips for wearing black to flatter your skin tone.
As part of my colour analysis service I show you your best dark neutrals, your alternatives to black that best suit your unique colouring. And as your person stylist I would also show you how to wear black in a flattering way that suited you and your style & lifestyle .
My top 10 tops for wearing black
1. Lower the neckline
Choose a lower neckline such as a V neck , scoop or square so you are creating space between your face and the black top.

2. Bottom half only
Keeping black to the bottom half means it can still be sliming and flattering to your shape without being unflattering to your skin tone.

3. Add some jewellery
Adding jewellery either in metallic or a pop of colour instantly lifts your complexion and breaks up the negative affects of the black on your skin tone.

4. With a pop of colour
Wearing one of your best colours over your black top as a pop of colour creates such a fun and also flattering colour combination.

5. With denim
Denim and black is a match made in fashion heaven. Wear your denim jacket over everything black for an instant brightener

6. In a Print
A print with a black base is a great way to wear back but also have colour too. I love a black based floral, totally timeless and always in style. Bring out one of the colours in the print with your accessories for a colour pop.

7. Over a neutral top
A black jacket/blazer/ biker are such wardrobe essentials so whilst wearing them think about how to separate the black from your face. By wearing one of your best light neutrals underneath it creates a lighter impact on your skin tone.

8. Stripes
Black and white stripes are a classic way to wear black and also for it to be not so harsh as balanced with the white. Wearing a lighter neutral on top also will help lift the overall tone.

9. Level up your make up
By levelling up your make up, particularly around the eyes which tends to be in black with eyeliner & mascara, you can bring out those features. Your make up can compensate for the negative impact that black has on your complexion so by adding extra colour that’s needed to balance it out.

10. Add a scarf
A scarf either in the colder months or a beautiful pop of colour in spring summer is the easiest way to make sure you keep your most flattering colours next to your face. Wearing over black
