Usually by now we would all have lots of festivities and Christmas events in the diary on the lead up to the big day. With outfits to plan for and Christmas party dresses to buy for. This year … well I won‘t say the other C word, its certainly going to be different and social events are sure to be fewer and smaller, but our need for some Christmas cheer has never been so great.
Because of this need everything has gone Christmas crazy a little earlier this year. So I am thinking, if we are putting the Christmas tree up and getting out the mince pies already.. that means its perfectly acceptable to wear my sequins on the school run and my festive jumpers to the supermarket?? Right? YES.
However we are celebrating Christmas this year having some festive outfits are still a must! And I should add I’m not here to get you to spend money, just to give you some inspiration. I have selected my top 2 items from the high street, you probably have something similar in the back of your wardobe from last year, but if you not and you love something I share then I say treat yourself! We all need a bit of sparkly to lift our spirits this year.
For there is no doubt that get getting dressed up can improve your mood and give you a lift, looking nice makes you feel nice. There is something so undeniably cheerful about a bit of sparkle and sequins ( do I need to mention strictly!)
Now whatever level of Christmas sparkle you wish to go this Christmas, I have you covered.
The sparkly top

We will start with my favourite, as this was my fail safe go to outfit for years and covered all events on the run up to Christmas for years.
Buy a sparkly top, wear with black skinny jeans/ skirt or smart trousers, add in heels or boots depending on where I was going. A winning formula.
This year, round the house I’ll be wearing my sparkly tops with my joggers, for max comfort and to accommodate my Christmas food baby!

The sparkly jumper
So this is a jumper that has just a nod towards Christmas in that its sparkly. But it’s not a Christmas jumper. Looks great worn with jeans, trousers, a skirt (see below!), or even your joggers at home! Perfect for being cosy and having that added sparkly means its easy dress up with accessories and shoes.

The sequin skirt

So I have been searching for the perfect one of these for a few years, easy to dress down with a plan knit, polo neck, or sweat top, also love the look with a t-shirt and heels for maximum laid back cool. Dress up with a simple black top and heels and you are ready for any Christmas party. This silkfred skirt has serious Gucci vibes.

The metallic pleated skirt

These look so chic with boots and jumper or plain top and would be great for a Christmas pub lunch or family event. ( usually stretchy waist band too!). My personal favourite look is to team the metallic skirt with simple black polo neck and then add boots or heels. Really simple but so stylish and flattering.
It would be a good investment for your wardobe as this style is not just for winter, they look great in spring/summer too. Again easy to make casual by wearing with a sweat top or jumper and trainers.

The sequin blazer

Add a sequin blazer to your jeans and a plain top and you are instantly party ready. Also great for skimming over the middle area if you are wanting to create a slimmer silhouette.
Really flattering to all body shapes as shown by Debbie from the TheFashionablepan on her feature on Intagram, “Curvy slim sisters”, where she and her lovely sister in law who are very different shapes, show how the same outfits can be worn and look fabulous on both. ( see above pic)

The sequin trouser

I love both the loungewear styles for staying in and more tailored look for heading out. Keep the rest of your outfit plain and simple and let the sequins be the focus!

Or go full on sparkle and wear a sequin suit like the fabulous Emma, as featured on her instagram page @swoon_love

And lastly…Red.

You can’t get more Christmassy than the colour red. A great colour all year round but at this time of year it takes on a very festive feel.
Red and black is a fail safe combo and it looks lovely with denim and camel. Dress up or down the options are pretty endless but here are a few of my favourites. Sometimes just a touch of red with your accessories is just enough to add that festive touch.

Thanks for reading I hope I have got you feeling festive and given you some inspiration!
